10 ways to become a digital nomad without the skills to work online
Digital nomad? Like a christopher columbus milieanal type person?
Nope, a digital nomad is a type of people who use telecommunications technologies to earn a living and, more generally, conduct their life in a nomadic manner. They usually conduct their trades whilst in foreign countries.
A number of nomads usually get started through the entrepreneurial route and starting their own online business. This undoubtedly gives the most freedom but it’s very difficult to succeed since running a business in itself is hard work along with juggling the nomad lifestyle along with it. Most digital nomads in fact start out by freelancing a particular skill they have learned.
Depending on current skills, experience, and how much money you have available there is multiple ways to get started on this new way of life. So... let’s get started with ways of how to become a digital nomad
Join the gig economy.
You can always offer services in the gig economy. Sites such as Fiverr and upwork do small gigs that can easily be completed. So the barrier for entry is low and they are not massively skill based.
Teach English
Okay, you can always opt to teach English if you really do get stuck somewhere during your travels and you're in a true spot of bother to make ends meet. We do not whole heartily recommend this as your 1st port of call since 1, it is less straightforward since you'll have to get out there and contact local schools where you can offer your services. 2. You have to stick to a school and not be a nomad, as well you don't earn much. You'll be looking at local wages wherever you go.
Virtual tutoring.
Have a particular skill? Use it! You can teach just about anything over Skype. This works especially well for teaching languages that we just talked about. Are you really knowledgeable in a certain niche? History perhaps? Maybe you're really good at a musical instrument. You can search for virtual tutoring jobs on sides like Indeed as well as the others we have already mentioned.
Learn to freelance
If your current experience can’t be used to work online, you can start a freelance business in your freetime. Remember again those gig sites? Easy to set up so pick an easy skill from the list of services they are offering you a platform for and get learning!
Publish an ebook.
Probably one of the less used income sources for nomads, publish an ebook. You can use Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing platform to do this. Of course this takes creative writing or at the very least an idea for said book, and develop the creative writing skills to make it at least and interesting concept to read for said reader.
Take over an already established Online Business
A super fast, but also highly risky and expensive way to become a digital nomad...We we didn't say this list was gonna be frugal did we?! Buying an existing Online Business that already generates money or is boslously a no brainer if you have the funds to do so. You can buy businesses on sites like Flippa.com.
Start a blog.
Another way to keep yourself afloat is to start a blog. Understanding the mechanics of marketing online is REALLY helpful, but like the ebook idea it must be useful or interesting to the reader. You can create a blog that will continue to produce income even if you're not doing any work. The more niche you go with your blog, the better.
Get a job abroad
One other popular way is to get a job abroad that allows you the possibility of working remotely. A good way to do this is by taking a Working Holiday visa in countries like Canada or Australia. Why not get more experience in the role you wish to develop in while working and living in those amazing countries.
Convince your work that you can do remote work
Do you love your job? is most of your time on the laptop? If you have an understanding boss and company policy you might be able to convince them to give you the freedom to allow you to do most of your work remotely. I don't recommend telling them you want to go abroad straight away, prove that you can do your job remotely from home before taking the next step. This might be a long shot but if you dont ask you dont get!
Find a remote job online
More and more companies are seeing the value of remote work, not office space to rent, no office politics. We all know that today there are a lot of office jobs which could be done from anywhere in the world. You can find these jobs now on regular career websites, just go look!
